The city of Brampton has laid out its plans for the performing arts for the next five years. For the next half-decade, the city will primarily focus on developing and promoting Brampton’s cultural identity.

One of the key elements of the five-year plan is developing Brampton’s performing arts venues. “The City of Brampton’s performing arts venues are where the performing arts in our city come to life, with the community at the core of our purpose,” says Patrick Brown, Mayor of the City of Brampton in an official statement. “I’m excited to see the development of our first Performing Arts Strategic Plan to help further strengthen Brampton’s artistic landscape, now and in the future.”

As part of the effort to promote local performing arts, the city of Brampton has announced that the principles of community building, diversity, and inclusion will serve as the guiding force for performing arts efforts. Part of the plan is also to build a city-wide campus that will provide people from the arts with an opportunity to strengthen talent development and showcasing in Brampton.

The city has also announced a strategic plan that will focus on four main strategic priorities. Those priorities are namely to:

  • Expand community programming and outreach
  • Deepen equity, diversity, inclusion, and access
  • Invest in streamlined marketing, communications, and website across all performing arts venues
  • Develop organisational resilience

“Brampton is a beacon of artistic diversity, a profoundly enlightened city where the performing arts are vital to people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life,” shares Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor and chair of Brampton’s Community Services. “Brampton is a Mosaic, and it’s important that our diverse, creative population is reflected in our programming. This Performing Arts Strategic Plan will help position Brampton for years of success.”

Moreover, Brampton’s advising individuals also hope to expand performing arts programs that will appeal to wider audiences. They hope to achieve this by running community advisory groups, residencies, internships, and audience-center programming. Already, these groups have expressed a list of requests, including adding more music and other performances at the Rose Theatre, one of Brampton’s premier venues for the arts.
