Book lovers in Winnipeg have a reason to celebrate as the city has announced the reopening of Munroe Library. The reopening follows a renovation project that cost a reported $220,000.
Some of the notable renovations done to the library include new paint and new flooring, which library visitors can now check out. City officials have shared that visitors will also now find a new service desk, a new interior book return, and a bigger area for children. There are also new areas in the Munroe Library, such as a tutorial room and a family literacy playground.
“Libraries serve to do just that every day. They’re vital to building healthy, thriving communities. They’re places for learning. They’re places that encourage engagement and help expand the minds of both young and old,” shared Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman at the reopening event on Wednesday.
The city mayor has also added how he believes that better community spaces play a role in building the city. He hopes that the newly renovated library will become a valuable resource for members of the society for many years to come.
Elmwood-East Kildonan Coun. Jason Schreyer said that the Munroe Library is now “prepared more than ever” to bring people an excellent space to access books, reading materials, and other learning resources to enrich the community, especially children and students.
The Munroe Library is found in the Munroe Shopping Center at 489 London St, Winnipeg.
